Obituary for
William Franklin Fisher
William (Bill) Fisher, 90, passed quietly at home Sunday, December 17, 2017 surrounded by his family.
He joins his wife Wilma of 66 years who passed June 3, 2017.
He was born on January 25, 1927 in Oakland City, IN to Frank and Helen Fisher; he had an older brother Richard “Dick” Fisher. Bill attended Muncie Schools and was a member of the 1945 State Championship Bearcat Football Team. Leaving high school to serve his country, he joined the Navy in 1945.
He was given a medical discharge from the Navy in 1946 and returned to his home in Muncie. He worked at Warner Gear and retired after 30 years.
Bill met Wilma Davis and the two were married and raised four children during their 66 years together. Early in their marriage they attended a Christian Crusade and accepted the Lord as their Savior. He was strong in his faith and attended Avondale UMC.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time on his pontoon boat at the Muncie Reservoir. This was a lifelong passion that he shared with his family. Bill and Wilma also shared a love for gardening where they spent many summer days together creating a beautiful backyard garden. His love for gardening continued through this past summer.
Bill is survived by son William Jr., (Vicki Kay), daughters Vicki Hartley (Bob), Cindie Cranmer, and Melodie Lee. Grandchildren, Shannon Hartley Fitzgerald (Glenn), William Shook, Stephen Hartley (Katie), Chris Lee (Kayla), Lindsay Resmer (Devyn), Brad Lee (Michelle), Ashley Flannery (Ryan), Nichole Long (Henry), Kyle Cranmer, and 25 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Helen Fisher, brother Richard, son-in-law Gary Cranmer, and grandsons Jimmie Cranmer and Philip Dennie.
Funeral Services for Bill will be held Friday, December 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home with Rev. Jonah Stultz officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United States Navy and the Delaware County Honor Guard. Friends and family may call from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.
