Douglas Edward Williams
Douglas Edward Williams, 67, of Muncie passed away on Wednesday September 11, 2013 at his residence, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
He was born on February 25, 1946 in Anderson and was the son of Edward and the late Glenna (Beaty) Williams. Douglas was a lifelong Muncie resident and graduated from Muncie Southside High School with the class of 1964.
He was an Indiana National Guard Veteran, serving from 1966-1971 and was retired from Delco Battery after 32 years of service as an assembly worker. Memberships include the Delaware Lodge No. 46 of Free and Accepted Masons, and Avondale Church , where he attended regularly. Douglas was a man of great faith who loved his family very much and was a great friend to many. He also loved sports, especially baseball, and was a lifelong Detroit Tigers and Lions fan.
Survivors include loving wife of 47 years Vicki Hansard Williams of Muncie; son Jay (Cathy) of Canyon Country, Calif.; daughter Julie (Jon) Chalfant of Muncie; father Edward Williams (friend Bessie Cox) of Muncie; four grandchildren Kinley Williams of Muncie and Brantley, Alexis, and Parker Williams all of Canyon Country, Calif.; great-grandson Zion Douglas of Muncie; brother-in-laws Rick (Linda) Hansard of Chesterfield, VA, Mike (Michelle) Hansard of Muncie, and Randy (Vicky) Hansard of Wapakoneta, OH; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Glenna and brother George.
Friends may call on Sunday September 15, 2013 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Garden View Funeral Home 10501 N. Indiana 3, Muncie, with a Masonic Service at 4:30 p.m.
Funeral services for Douglas will be held on Monday September 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Johnson officiating.
Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army Military Rites Team and the Delaware County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorial contributions be made to The Little Red Door or IU Ball Memorial Hospice.
