Donald Andrew Johnson Sr.
Donald A. Johnson Sr., 78, of Albany,IN passed away on Saturday March 8, 2014 at Albany Health and Rehabilitation, Albany. Born on October 10, 1935 in Muncie, IN he was the son of the late Claude and Florence Johnson.
On November 11, 1956 Don married Sherry Anne Sciscoe. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on October 8, 1958, where he was educated as a typesetter and proudly served his country for four years, including time spent during the Cuban Missile Crisis, before being discharged honorably in 1962. Don then began working for the Fort Wayne Newspapers as a typesetter until his retirement in 1988 after 25 years of service. He was a very talented craft maker. He sewed square dancing clothes, painted landscapes, and also made beautiful needlework. Don was a kind, gentle man and was also a talker, making friends everywhere. He also attended Albany Christian Church.
Donald is survived by his daughter Deanna (Tim) French of Mesa, AZ; son Donald A. (Joyce) Johnson Jr. of Fort Wayne,IN; grandson Alexander French of Seattle, WA; granddaughters Laura (Kye) Recker and Melissa Johnson both of Fort Wayne; step-grandchildren Jason and Jamie Zehr both of Fort Wayne; special niece Jan (Jim) Davis of Albany; several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and wife Sherry Anne (Sciscoe) Johnson.
Friends may call on Tuesday March 11, 2014 from 11-1 at the Garden View Funeral Home 10501 N. Indiana 3, Muncie.
Funeral services for Donald will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 11, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie, with military honors. The family of Donald Johnson Sr. would like to send a special Thank You to everyone who cared for him at Albany Health Care.
