Beverely June Childs, 82, of Muncie, died early Monday morning, July 25th, 2016 at Westminster Village of Muncie. She was born July 30th, 1933 in New Castle, IN and was the daughter of the late Raymond & Ruby (Mosier) Conwell.
Beverely grew up in the Mooreland community and graduated from Mooreland High School in 1951. She then attended and graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1957. Beverly’s first teaching position was vocal music instructor in Bluffton Elementary and Bluffton High School. She met late husband John “Jack” Childs at the Mooreland 4-H Fair and they married on July 6th, 1957. They lived in Columbus, IN while Jack worked for Stadlers Packing Co. and Bev taught music at Nineveh. They moved to Muncie, IN when Jack joined Beverely’s dad in the livestock business and Beverely started substitute teaching in the Muncie area. Jack worked with his father-in-law at Marhoufers Packing Co. as a buyer, and in 1964 he started his own livestock business which grew to become Jack Childs Livestock Yards where Beverely worked as well. They both did Christian church work and Beverely continuing her love for music as a choir director in many different churches in the area. Beverely started a women’s singing group who traveled locally presenting a full choral program. Her heart was to express the Good News of Jesus Christ to her family and to the entire world through her work, her music and her life.
Beverely is survived by her three daughters; Tamara Doorly (Brian) of Marshall, VA, Cathy Mickler (Jay) of Muncie, and Kim Waites of Rutherfordton, NC; six grandchildren Brittany and Jennifer Mickler, Renee, Joshua, Meika Doorly, and Gabrielle Waits; great grandson Wyatt; two brothers Lloyd and Dorwin Conwell; two sisters Nancy Conwell and Saundra Harper (Gordon); and a large number of very special and close friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her late husband John “Jack” Childs.
Funeral Services for Beverely will be held Friday, July 29th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North STRD 3, Muncie, IN 47303 with Pastor Glenn Greiner of Union Chapel Ministries officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery located at the coroner of Wilbur Wright Road and US 36 in Mooreland. Family and friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 28th, 2016 at the funeral home.
