Obituary for
Irvin Maggard Jr.
Irvin "Sarge" Maggard Jr., 91 of Muncie passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 17, 2016 at VA Northern Health Care Center in Marion. He was born May 30, 1925 in Hazard, Kentucky and was the son of the late Irvin “Erb" Sr. & Nellie (Combs) Maggard.
Irvin was drafted into the United States Army on May 1, 1944 to June 17, 1946 into the 1st Infantry Division stationed in Germany (Big Red One). He fought in the battle of the Bulge in 1944. Irvin re-enlisted in 1948 and was stationed at Fort Knox, KY in the 526th Armored Infantry Battalion. He was stationed in Belgium, France, Germany, Korea Conflict, and Hawaii. Irvin retired from the United States Army on Oct. 31, 1966 as Master Sergeant. He relocated to Muncie in 1966 and then retired from Broderick’s. Irvin married his wife Patricia on August 2, 1984.
Irvin is survived by son Bill Maggard (Shiela) of Muncie, daughter Debbie Kidd (James) of Muncie, daughter Jennifer Huxhold (Todd) of Muncie, daughter Lisa Wallen (Tom) of Indianapolis, son Michael Jennings (Lisa) of Muncie, and son Terry Sites (Ona) of Muncie; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-nine great- grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; a sister Eunice M. Saylors (Kenneth Ray) of North Carolina; six nieces and two nephews and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia; four brothers Fred, Ray, Elbert, and Donald Maggard; a sister Mary Alice Maggard; a son Ben Jennings; three grandsons and a great-grandson preceded him in death also.
Funeral Services for Irvin will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016 at Garden View Funeral Home, with Pastor Ron Elam officiating. Burial with military honors being conducted by the United States Army and the Delaware County Honor Guard will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, November 21st, 2016 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans or the Wounded Warriors with envelopes provided at the funeral home. The family request that all military personnel be in uniform.
