James "Ted" Scott
James Theodore “Ted” Scott, 93, of Muncie, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born May 7, 1924 in Upland, Indiana, and was the son of the late Kenneth and Rosanna (Hickman) Scott.
Ted was a graduate of Royerton High School class of 1942. He married the love of his life, Juanita (Strahan) Scott July 14, 1943. He was a farmer in Delaware County and raised Percheron Horses and mules, and milked Guernsey cattle. Ted served as a member of the Delaware Community School Board for 12 years and was past president of the North Muncie Kiwanis. Ted was active in the 4-H club where he served on the Auction Committee, 4-H Council and was 4-H leader for more than fifty years. He was also a member of the Chain Gang of Delta Football, Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Indiana Guernsey Breeders Association. Ted was Past President of the Eastern Indiana Livestock Breeders Association. He also volunteered at the Pioneer Village Worker at the State Fair, and was one of the original founders of the Delaware County Farm Festival (Ag Days). He sold Pioneer Seed Corn, was deputy Delaware Township assessor and a substitute bus driver.
Ted is survived by five children, Jim Scott (Maggie), Joe Scott (Janis), Linda Janney (Jack), Jerry Scott (Tracy), and Jay Scott (Kathy) all of Muncie; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers Tom Scott (Frances), and Don Scott; a brother-in-law Robert Strahan, sister-in-law Patricia Strahan, sister-in-law Jean Strahan; and a close family friend Joe Hines (Madeline). In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter Susan Ledbetter, a great-grandson Shane Ledbetter, sister-in-law Doris Scott, sister-in-law Sue Scott, sister Mary Ellen(Scott) Echols, and brother-in-law John Echols.
Funeral services for Ted will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 10:00 at Garden View Funeral Home with Pastors Joe Hines and Don Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “James “Ted” Scott Memorial 4-H Scholarship Fund” at any Mutual Bank location or by envelopes provided by the funeral home.
