I came to Daleville in the summer of 1950 and spent eight years there. During those eight years Hubert and I became the best of friends and spent most of our time together and imagining what the future would be like. Not knowing just how much it would change. Even wrote a book after graduation. It's still in draft form. Joined the Army in October 1960 on the buddy plan and spent 3 months together at Fort Lennord Wood Mo. Discharged on October 3rd 1963. We remained best -friends after that. When I Got married.(May 27th 1966) I got married in the preacher"s house. It cost me $5.00. On May 27th it will be 48 years. Hubert was going to be my best man on Saturday the 28th, next day. My Brother-in-Law and my sister told me and Raydean my wife to be they were going to decorate my car with cans and paint it all up and have us drive around town. We got married the afternoon the day Raydean graduated and she graduated that night.On Saturday May 28th about time we were going to be married Hubert showed up to be Best Man. He drove 180 miles one way alone to get there. We told him what happened. We apologized and said we were sorry. He just smiled and congratulated and wished us the best. We drove to Nashville, Tennessee for our Honeymoon and Hubert drove back Home. Five years later I got to be Best Man at his Church Wedding. That is a real Best Friend.
